How to Get the Most from Your Coaching Experience
Meet Your Coaches
A coaching story
I look at my watch, it's ten minutes before the hour. My greatly anticipated time has come yet again for me to talk to my Coach. I reach for my cup of tea, my pen and paper, and head to my private little corner of my world; my place where I have complete privacy and comfort. I sit back into my cozy chair, take a deep breath and begin to relax. I find myself reflecting over the past week since we last spoke and am excited over the shifts and changes I see in my life. I have accomplished my fieldwork and am ready for a new challenge for growth.

My anticipation increases as the time draws nearer. I am ready to indulge myself in self-betterment and self-discovery... The appointed time is here... I pick up the phone and call in. There, on the other end of the line, is my partner in my journey, my confidant, my mentor, my coach.

Some tips to get prepared

  • Choose a special place for your coaching sessions where you wont be interrupted or distracted and your full attention can be given.
  • Gather pen and paper to write down anything important you want to remember from your coaching session.
  • Prepare yourself before the call by: quieting yourself, taking some deep breaths, quieting your mind, setting distractions aside.
  • Come prepared with what you want to discuss in your session. You might choose to review notes from your last session; some of your personal journaling; something from your fieldwork (this is a coaching term for any "homework" you have chosen to do between sessions.); or any "wins" or questions that arose over the week.
  • Block all other incoming calls if you are able to, if not, choose to not receive any of these calls.
  • During the week, focus on your fieldwork or on what you found to be of great value from your last coaching session and apply it to your life.
